Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) is a global Pentecostal organization founded in 1989 by Dr. D.K. Olukoya, an accomplished scientist who transitioned from a high-profile career in molecular genetics to full-time ministry. Dr. Olukoya holds a first-class degree from the University of Lagos and a PhD from the University of Reading (formerly under the University of London system). This rigorous academic pedigree profoundly shapes MFM’s social interventions, which are characterized by a unique blend of “fire-brand” spiritual warfare and a deep, systematic commitment to scientific advancement, classical music, and high-level education. While widely known for its “Prayer City” on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, MFM has quietly become one of the most significant institutional donors to secular academia and cultural heritage in Nigeria.

EDUCATION & SCIENTIFIC DEVELOPMENT

Mountain Top University (MTU) — 32 NUC-Approved Programmes

Established in 2015, Mountain Top University (MTU) serves as the academic pinnacle of the ministry. Located at KM 12, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, the institution offers 32 NUC-approved programs across 19 departments. With a focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), MTU provides specialized degrees in Cyber Security, Biochemistry, and Computer Science, aiming to produce graduates who are both spiritually grounded and technologically proficient.

Donation of Science Laboratories to Secular Universities

In a rare move for a religious organization, MFM has actively funded the development of scientific infrastructure in non-religious, secular Nigerian universities. An academic study published in the Taylor and Francis Journal of African Cultural Studies documented MFM’s CSR activities, highlighting the donation of “standard science laboratories” to secular institutions alongside road maintenance and economic empowerment schemes.

The Six-Track Educational CSR Model

Research published in the ACU Journal of Religion Studies identified MFM’s structured approach to education. The ministry operates a six-track model:

  1. Skill Acquisition: Vocational training for entrepreneurship.
  2. Salary Augmentation: Funding teachers’ salaries in select underserved schools.
  3. Infrastructure: School renovation and construction.
  4. Excellence Awards: Rewarding high-achieving students.
  5. Indigent Scholarships: Full funding for underprivileged learners.
  6. Spiritual Development: Character building and ethics.

FOOD RELIEF & HUMANITARIAN AID

Structured Social Impact Campaign (May 2025 Expansion)

In May 2025, MFM significantly scaled its welfare wing into a “structured and far-reaching social impact campaign.” Reported by The Guardian Nigeria, this expansion focused on national and international food aid distributions specifically targeted at widows, orphans, the elderly, and the economically vulnerable. This shift marks MFM’s move toward a more systematic, data-driven humanitarian model.

CULTURE & ARTS

Mountain Top Conservatory and Philharmonic Orchestra

MFM holds the distinction of founding Nigeria’s first formal church-based classical music conservatory. The Mountain Top Conservatory of Music (MTCM) and the Mountain Top Conservatory Choir and Philharmonic Orchestra (MCCPO) provide professional training in orchestral instruments and choral conducting. This initiative has preserved classical music traditions in Nigeria, providing a platform for high-art performance within a Pentecostal context.
