Baptist Medical Centre Ogbomoso was founded in 1853 by American Baptist missionaries. It predates the Nigerian state, the colonial administration as Nigerians experienced it, and modern medicine itself.

For 170 years, it has provided medical care to residents of Ogbomoso and the surrounding region in Oyo State. It is one of the oldest continuously operating hospitals in sub-Saharan Africa.

The hospital today operates across multiple departments including medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics, and ophthalmology. It trains medical professionals and serves patients at rates that are significantly below those of comparable private hospitals.

The Nigerian Baptist Convention operates Baptist Medical Centre Ogbomoso alongside a network of other Baptist health institutions across the country, continuing a tradition of healthcare provision that began before the concept of Nigerian healthcare policy existed.
